In a Video-Centric Web, the Importance of the .TV Domain is Rising

In this Beet.TV interview from SXSW in Austin, Verisign’s Tom Correia, who is product manager for the .tv domain, talks about the growth of the video-centric web and the importance and value of the .tv domain to that growth. “You’re seeing .TV in more and more places,” says Correia. “Online video… is growing in popularity, growing in usage. It went from Youtube and getting dogs on skateboards and crazy cat videos to people wanting to express themselves in a more professional, more robust manner. So online video has grown and I think that the awareness of .tv, and saying, This is your identity. This is the place where you can go that tells people that you’re using video even before they get there. I think that really makes sense to people.” I couldn’t agree more, Tom.

Andy Plesser of Beet.TV, reporting from SXSW in Austin:

AUSTIN – As the Web becomes increasingly Web-centric, more publishers are embracing the .tv domain as a way to denote video content, says Verisign’s Tom Correia, who is product manager for the .tv domain.

Dulles, Virginia-based Verisign manages the global use of the .tv domain in an on-going arrangement with the tiny Polynesian island nation of Tuvalu.

In this interview this past weekend at SXSW, Correira says that interest in domain extensions is becoming more important as companies and organizations seek to create an identity through extensions outside of the widely use .com.

Grateful for Tom for his shoutout about Beet.TV in this interview. We’ve been an evangelist for the .tv domain since our launch five years ago.
